Ole Miss Track & Field’s Alicia Burnett Earns Silver in 100 Meters at SEC Championships

OPELIKA, Ala. — Ole Miss track and field wrapped up its participation at the 2026 SEC Outdoor Championships with a medal and several school record performances at Auburn’s Hutsell-Rosen Track complex Saturday evening, according to the university’s athletics department.

Senior Alicia Burnett, an All-American, earned a silver medal in the women’s 100-meter dash. Burnett ran a wind-legal personal best of 11.01 seconds (+0.5), tying the best finish ever by a Rebel woman in the event. She was narrowly edged out by Florida’s Gabrielle Matthews, who clocked 10.97 seconds for the victory, the meet’s fastest wind-legal time.

Burnett’s performance marked her fifth medal of the meet and added to Ole Miss’s tally of all-time bests. Her finish matches Teneeshia Jones’ second-place finish in 2000, making Burnett’s run the highest-ever by an Ole Miss woman in the event, according to the university.

Earlier, Burnett anchored Ole Miss’s 4×100-meter relay team, which finished seventh with a time of 43.27 seconds. The relay team, composed of Zion Lockette, Patchnalie Compere, Royanah Farmer and Burnett, ranks as the second-fastest in school history and 16th nationally this season.

The men’s 4×100-meter relay also set a school record, finishing fifth in 38.65 seconds. The team of Dekell Minor, Jordan Urrutia, Wesley Todd, and Tarique Wright surpassed their previous best and marked Ole Miss’s top SEC finish since 2011. Urrutia added a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters with a personal-best 20.42 seconds, the best by a Rebel since 2013.

Max Armstrong posted a career-best 1:46.06 in the 800 meters, finishing fifth and moving into fourth all-time at Ole Miss in the event. The Rebel men’s 4×400-meter relay team, with Armstrong anchoring, clocked 3:05.09, their fastest since 1994 and fifth-best in school history.

Junior Sterling Scott scored in the field, placing fourth in the triple jump with a wind-legal mark of 16.36 meters (53-8.25). Lily Beattie also scored for Ole Miss, tying for seventh in the women’s pole vault at 4.06 meters (13-3.75).

Ole Miss athletes now prepare for the NCAA East Regional in Lexington, Kentucky, scheduled for May 27-30. The Rebels finished ninth in the men’s team standings and 13th among women at the SEC Championships, with Florida and Georgia claiming the team titles.
