After a successful 2023-24 regular season campaign, the Northwest men’s rodeo team checks in at No. 24 in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s national standings.
Collectively, the Rangers tallied 4,050 team points throughout the season, joining a logjam of other teams in the latter half of the standings. Northwest was within 100 points or less of No. 21 West Alabama (4,110), No. 22 Utah Valley University (4,105) and 23rd-ranked South Dakota State University (4,055), while finishing just five points ahead of No. 25 Western Oklahoma State College.
Northwest finished third in the NIRA Ozark Region standings and five members of the men’s rodeo squad will represent the Rangers at the upcoming College National Finals Rodeo. Christian Cagle is expected to compete in both steer wrestling and saddle bronc riding, while fellow steer wrestlers Will Collier and Kent Jordan will join team roper Laine Moore and bull rider Luke Stanley at the national event.
Cagle, Collier and Moore are all represented in the national standings as well, with Collier finishing 15th in steer wrestling with 725 points. Cagle’s 650 season points helped him finish the regular season tied for 21st in steer wrestling with Dane Haas (College of Southern Idaho), while Moore’s 620 points in team roping helped him to tie Lan Fuhrer of South Dakota State for 13th in the nation.
Scheduled for June 9-15, the College National Finals Rodeo will be held at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming. Coverage will once again be provided by ESPN3 and the ESPN app on your computer, tablet, smart TV or mobile device.
