Northwest Mississippi Volleyball’s Jania Rose Named MACCC Defensive Player of the Week

Senatobia, Miss. — Jania Rose of Northwest Mississippi Community College was named the MACCC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the school announced Tuesday.

Rose, a freshman defensive specialist, recorded 50 digs and nine aces during a six-match stretch, five of which were away from home. She also posted a .949 reception percentage with only three errors on serve receive, including four aces in a 3-1 road victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Playing in 15 of 19 sets, Rose has been a key figure on the team’s back line. She has accumulated 187 digs this season, 45 more than the next closest player, averaging 3.82 per set. Her reception percentage stands at .961 with just eight errors in 205 chances. Rose also has 21 aces this year, ranking among the team’s leaders.

Over her career, Rose has averaged 3.33 digs per set and surpassed 500 career digs earlier this season with a total of 572 in 54 matches. She previously split time as the team’s libero last year. Rose is 12 aces shy of reaching 100 for her career and has committed only eight reception errors in 172 sets over two seasons.
