No. 23 Northwest Volleyball Continues Winning Streak with Two Sweeps at Gulf Shores Invitational
The No. 23 Northwest Mississippi Community College volleyball team extended its undefeated record to 26-0 after securing two sweeps at the Alabama Gulf Shores Invitational on Friday. The Rangers defeated Bishop State Community College in three sets and beat Snead State Community College in straight sets in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
In their morning match, Northwest rolled past Bishop State, winning 25-12, 25-7, 25-15. The team opened strong, jumping to a 19-3 lead in the first set, aided by service runs from Adalyn Callahan and Jania Rose. Despite a late rally from Bishop State, Northwest secured the set comfortably. The second set saw consistent serving from multiple players, with the Rangers winning 25-7. They finished the match with a commanding third set, 25-15, as Rose closed the set with a service run. Sofia Gonzalez led the team with 11 kills, hitting .345 with one error, and added two aces. Ariana Woods and Talley Taylor contributed offensively, with Taylor hitting .667 without errors.
Defensively, Rose led with 10 digs, and the team totaled 43 digs overall. The Rangers also combined for five blocks, led by Taylor with three assisted blocks. Later in the day, Northwest faced Snead State, winning 25-11, 25-21, 25-19. The team opened with a 14-1 run in the first set, sparked by Rose’s serve, and held off a late rally to win. The second set was closer, with Snead State tying the score multiple times before Northwest pulled ahead with a run led by Reese McIntosh’s serve, sealing the set 25-21. The third set saw Northwest take an early lead and maintain it, closing with strong net play for a 25-19 victory.
Talley Taylor and Sofia Gonzalez led the offense, with Woods tallying 13 kills and hitting .370. Rodriguez dished out 17 assists, surpassing 900 in her career, while teammate Dallas White reached 10 assists. Rose’s four aces moved her into second in program history for career aces, and she finished with 14 digs. The team combined for 12 aces and 43 digs across the two matches. Northwest is scheduled to continue action Saturday morning against Gadsden State Community College and later face Enterprise State Community College, with matches streamed on the NWCC volleyball Hudl page.
