Southern Miss Soccer Hosts Louisiana on Saturday at the Bell
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss soccer will host Louisiana on Saturday at noon at the Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex. The Golden Eagles enter the game with a two-match winning streak and a 5-3-2 record overall, including a 2-1 mark in Sun Belt Conference play, according to university sources.
Southern Miss has won four of its last five matches, scoring 13 goals during that stretch. The team’s most recent victory was a 2-1 win over Louisiana Tech on Sunday, which marked its first consecutive conference wins since October 2024. The team has totaled 20 goals through 10 matches, averaging 14.1 shots per game.
Ava Bynes and Shaelynn Quick lead the team with four goals each. Bynes has a team-high 10 points, while Quick scored both goals against Louisiana Tech, her second career brace. Ryan Smith and Lorilee Taylor each have two goals and two assists. Five different players have scored game-winning goals this season.
In the victory over Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss produced a season-high 20 shots, with 10 on target. Taylor led the team with seven shots, and Quick placed four of her five attempts on goal. Argentina Estrada assisted on the opening goal, earning her first point as a Golden Eagle.
Louisiana comes into the matchup with a potent offense, having scored 35 goals in 12 matches, the most in the Sun Belt. The Ragin’ Cajuns are unbeaten in their last five games, most recently defeating Troy 5-0. Miku Kurihara leads Louisiana with 10 goals and 23 points, becoming only the fourth player in program history to reach double-digit goals in a season.
The teams have met 12 times in series history, with Louisiana holding a slight edge at 6-4-1. Last season, Louisiana won 5-0 in Lafayette after Southern Miss secured a 4-1 victory in Hattiesburg in 2024. The upcoming match marks an early Sun Belt test for Southern Miss, which has already posted four wins in five conference games.
