Mississippi Valley State Volleyball Falls to Florida A&M in Four Sets
Mississippi Valley State University’s volleyball team lost to Florida A&M in four sets Friday at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex. The Delta Devils took the second set before dropping the match, 16-25, 25-22, 11-25, 14-25.
Valley moved to 1-13 overall and 0-5 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Florida A&M improved to 8-9 overall and 3-1 in league action. The Delta Devils’ strongest stretch was in the second set, where they responded after dropping the opener. Valley produced 13 kills and hit .250, holding off a late FAMU rally to secure the set victory.
Taylor Wooten led MVSU offensively with 10 kills on 27 attempts, finishing with a .259 hitting percentage. Aubrie Walker added eight kills on 16 attempts for a .375 percentage. Aniyah Moore contributed six kills, while Hannah St. Croix finished with three. The team displayed balance in its setting attack, with Erin Mims recording 13 assists and Kameryn Browne adding 10.
The Delta Devils also served six aces, led by Dashaun Pinesette with three. Ashlynn Hawkins, Moore, and Browne each added one ace. Defensively, libero Taylor Wilson totaled eight digs, with Hawkins and Pinesette each contributing six. Wooten added four digs to go with her offensive effort. The team finished with 32 kills, 30 assists, six service aces and 38 digs.
Florida A&M was led by LaDonna Trantham, who posted 20 kills and a .486 hitting percentage. The Rattlers totaled 55 kills and hit .292 as a team. The match featured 16 ties and seven lead changes in front of an announced crowd of 215 spectators.
