Mississippi College soccer players Harry McLean and Faith Clark earned weekly honors from the Gulf South Conference following standout performances last week, according to the university.
McLean, a freshman forward from Motherwell, Scotland, was named GSC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals in two matches. He opened the scoring in a 3-0 victory over Eckerd on Friday, then scored the equalizer in a 2-1 loss to Florida Southern on Sunday. Through four games this season, McLean leads Mississippi College with four goals and eight points, with three goals on five shots last week, the school said.
Clark, a junior defender, was named GSC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Lady Choctaws secure two road wins in Oklahoma. She played 169 minutes over two matches, including a key role in a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian, despite the team playing with 10 players for most of the game after an early red card.
In that match, Clark and the defense kept Oklahoma Christian from scoring despite 12 shots and 10 corner kicks for the Eagles. Caroline McCutchen scored the game-winner in the 84th minute. Clark also started and played 89 minutes in a 4-2 win over East Central, helping the Lady Choctaws improve to 3-1 this season.
This marks the first GSC Defender of the Week honor for a Mississippi Christian women’s soccer player this season. Both programs now shift focus to Gulf South Conference play as the teams continue their early-season schedules.
