CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi Christian lost 4-0 to Valdosta State on Wednesday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field. The Choctaws kept the Blazers off the scoreboard during the first half but conceded four goals in the second half, according to team officials.
The Choctaws created several scoring opportunities early in the game, including a stretch from the 13th to the 26th minute that featured shots from Paula Catalan, Cooper Holmes, and Kerri O’Hara, along with two corner kicks. They maintained offensive pressure into the second half’s opening minutes, recording four shots between the 49th and 55th minutes. Catalan and Olivia Graham each put a shot on goal during this period.
Valdosta State broke through in the 65th minute when Kyndal Smith scored off an assist from Michaela Mensah. Less than five minutes later, Sarah Hudson added another goal for the Blazers. They scored two more in the final 11 minutes. Despite late efforts, including corner kicks in the 85th and 88th minutes, the Choctaws could not score.
Catalan led the team with three shots, including one on goal. Jaylen Bodry recorded two shots on target, while Graham added two shots and one shot on goal. Brynn Hedberg played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save. The team now holds a 3-2-1 record overall and is 0-1-1 in Gulf South Conference play.
Mississippi Christian will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday to face Trevecca Nazarene in a conference game scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT.
