Mississippi Christian Volleyball Faces Top GSC Opponents on Road
Mississippi Christian University volleyball will continue Gulf South Conference play this weekend with two road matches against top league teams. The Choctaws face the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday and the University of Montevallo on Saturday.
MC enters the weekend with a 6-10 overall record and a 3-2 mark in conference play, following a five-set win at Union on Tuesday. The team will play UAH at 6 p.m. Friday at the SportsMED Arena in Huntsville and then travel to Montevallo for a 2 p.m. match Saturday at the Central State Bank Arena.
UAH, with an 11-2 record, is one of the conference’s top teams. The Chargers swept Montevallo in their most recent match on Sept. 25. UAH averages 12.87 kills and 11.73 assists per set, hitting .226 as a team. They also block 2.44 times per set and hold opponents to a .104 hitting percentage.
Kayla Ward leads UAH offensively with 2.60 kills per set and a .451 hitting percentage. Ella Schumacher adds 2.20 kills per set, while Cooper Garrett contributes 2.27 kills and 5.20 assists per set. Defensively, Mary Grace Bundrant averages 1.21 blocks per set, and libero Brooklyn Stiles records 4.06 digs per set.
For Mississippi Christian, the team averages 11.25 kills per set with a .144 hitting percentage. Top attackers include Holland Williams (2.33 kills per set), Mary Grace Foster (2.22), Cydney Mitchell (2.20), and Meg Paparella (2.09). Foster and Reese Regner handle much of the setting, and Samarin Kipple is a steady defensive presence. The team also boasts a statistical edge in blocking, with an average of 1.85 blocks per set.
The team will then travel to Montevallo for a Saturday contest, where the Falcons, with a 9-4 record, will look to defend their home court. Montevallo averages 12.27 kills and 11.33 assists per set, hitting .202. They also produce 15.15 digs and 1.37 blocks per set. Key players include Katie Wilkerson (4.07 kills per set) and Eliza Tyrrell (3.27 kills).
Both matches present challenges for MC. UAH emphasizes efficient attack and blocking, while Montevallo relies on high-volume offense and a strong service game. The weekend tests MC’s serve receive, blocking, and offensive balance. The team will have less than 24 hours between matches, adding to the scheduling challenge.
Coverage for both matches will be available via FloCollege with a subscription, along with live statistics from the host schools’ websites.
Mississippi Christian aims to build on its recent success as it takes on UAH on Friday and Montevallo on Saturday, striving to improve its standing in the conference.
