Jackson State volleyball finished a two-match day Friday at Earl K. Long Gym in Lafayette, losing in straight sets to UT Arlington and Mississippi State, according to team sources.
The Tigers fought hard in both matches, demonstrating offensive progress as the day went on. Despite the results, several players posted notable performances.
Against UT Arlington, Jackson State lost 25-20, 25-20, 25-19. The team recorded 32 kills, 31 assists, 44 digs, and three blocks. Katejion Robinson led with nine kills and a solo block, totaling 10 points. Jayla David posted six kills on 15 attempts with one error for a .333 hitting percentage. Hope Briggs added six kills and two blocks, while Ryleigh Davis contributed five kills with a .286 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Giannelle Asomani led with 12 digs, and Maya Reeves added nine. Naija Gadis finished with eight digs and 11 assists, along with a service ace. The team rallied in the second set, closing an 11-point deficit to 21-18 before falling.
Later Friday, Jackson State faced Mississippi State and was defeated 25-12, 25-21, 25-19. The Tigers improved offensively, totaling 33 kills with a .185 hitting percentage and 54 digs. Hope Briggs led with 12 kills on 20 swings for a .500 percentage, adding a block and 12.5 points. Jayla David was efficient with four kills on five attempts for an .800 hit rate and contributed two blocks.
Ryleigh Davis dished out 22 assists and added 11 digs for a double-double. Asomani again led defensively with 14 digs, with Featherstone adding nine and Gadis seven. The Tigers’ strongest set was the second, where they recorded 15 kills on 34 attempts for a .382 hitting percentage, but ultimately fell short.
Jackson State finished the day with 65 kills and 98 digs across both matches. The team will conclude the tournament Saturday against Louisiana at 2 p.m., according to team officials.
