Jackson State beats Middle Tennessee 4-1 to close non-conference schedule

Jackson, Miss. — Jackson State finalized its non-conference schedule with a 4-1 win over Middle Tennessee on Sunday afternoon at the JSU Soccer Complex.

The Tigers scored four goals on just five shots on goal. India Wilson broke the scoreless drought at the 42:25 mark, with Ryanne Hawthorn-Harper providing the assist. Jackson State led 1-0 at halftime.

After halftime, the Tigers quickly extended their lead. Hawthorn-Harper scored her fourth goal of the season in the 48th minute, and Malayah Nuestro added her first of the year in the 60th minute. Middle Tennessee responded less than a minute later, but Jackson State regained its three-goal advantage when Mia Ortega scored in the 65th minute. Ortega’s goal was her third of the season, sealing the victory.

Jackson State goalkeeper Taylor Osborn made 13 saves, including eight in the second half, to preserve the win. The Tigers improved to 3-6 overall with the victory.

Jackson State will open conference play against Southern on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Field in Jackson.
