Delta State Women’s Soccer Falls 3-2 to Valdosta State in GSC Opener
Valdosta, Georgia — The Delta State University women’s soccer team lost 3-2 to Valdosta State in its Gulf South Conference opener Saturday afternoon at the VSU Soccer Complex.
The Lady Statesmen (1-3-1, 0-1-0 GSC) fell behind early after Valdosta State’s Sarah Hudson scored in the second minute. Delta State responded in the 18th minute when Evie Shepherd scored her first career goal off an assist from Emma Earwood to tie the match at 1-1.
The Blazers scored twice before halftime to take a 3-1 lead at the break. Delta State cut the deficit to one in the 51st minute when Millie Webb scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Kennedi Turner.
The Lady Statesmen continued to pressure Valdosta State but were unable to find the equalizer. Delta State finished with 20 shots, including 10 on goal, while goalkeeper Kim Bircher recorded eight saves.
Delta State returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Union University in its 2026 home opener, the team announced.
