Belhaven Volleyball Wins Four Sets at Oglethorpe to Snap Losing Streak
ATLANTA — The Belhaven volleyball team rebounded from a narrow second-set loss to beat Oglethorpe in four sets Saturday afternoon inside Dorough Field House.
The Blazers secured scores of 25-19, 24-26, 25-12 and 25-18, improving to 4-6 on the season. It was Belhaven’s fourth win in five matches and marked its first road victory of the year.
Belhaven took an early lead in the first set, using three straight points to go up 9-4. The team maintained control until Oglethorpe responded with a four-point run to cut the lead to 18-15. Megan LaCour ended the rally with a kill, and Belhaven finished the set strong, winning 25-19.
The second set was closely contested. The Blazers led 8-4 early but saw Oglethorpe rally back to tie the score at 20. The Stormy Petrels eventually took the set 26-24 after overcoming a late Belhaven push and an error by the Blazers.
Belhaven regained momentum in the third set, opening with back-to-back service aces from Maggie Joy Tomlin. A six-point run pushed the lead to 16-7, and the team hit .476 for the set, winning 25-12. LaCour’s final kill sealed the set and put Belhaven ahead 2-1.
The Blazers carried their momentum into the fourth set, scoring three straight points early and then extending the lead to 12-3 during a seven-point run. Oglethorpe made a late push with five unanswered points but could not complete the rally, and Belhaven closed out the match 25-18.
Woodall led Belhaven with 14 kills and nine digs, earning a match-high 17 points. LaCour added nine kills and six blocks, while Tomlin contributed 34 assists and hit .400. Gauthier and Lowe also made significant contributions at the net.
Belhaven dominated at the net with 14 blocks and forced 36 errors from Oglethorpe. The Stormy Petrels hit just .039 for the match, with three sets at or below a .000 attack percentage. The Blazers will next host Huntingdon on Tuesday at Rugg Arena.
