Jackson, Miss. — Belhaven University volleyball team won twice Friday at Rugg Arena, defeating LeTourneau University in five sets and sweeping Centenary College. The wins improve the Blazers’ record to 2-5 this season, according to school officials.
In the opener, Tarryn Woodall posted a career-high 24 kills and 11 digs for her first double-double of the season. Her 24 kills tied the school record for most in a match, matching a mark set in 2012. Woodall also became the first Blazer since 2016 to reach 20 kills in a match, officials said.
Belhaven led early in the first set and maintained its advantage to win 25-20. The second set was more competitive, with LeTourneau taking a 19-14 lead. Belhaven rallied to win 27-25 after a late push featuring key kills from Megan LaCour and Woodall. The YellowJackets responded in the third and fourth sets, forcing a decisive fifth. Belhaven then took control, closing out the match 15-11 in the final set with kills from Woodall.
In the second match, Belhaven dominated from the start, winning 25-16, 25-17, 25-19 against Centenary. The Blazers never trailed in the first and third sets, with Woodall and others contributing key plays. LaCour led with nine kills, and Tomlin added 23 assists. The team finished with 35 kills and 41 digs, holding Centenary to a .092 hitting percentage.
Belhaven is scheduled to host Principia College on Saturday at noon. Fans can follow the team on social media and support athletics through Team Green Giving, officials said.
