West Alabama Softball Sweeps Doubleheader From Mississippi College

Livingston, Ala. — Mississippi College’s softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader against West Alabama on Thursday at University Field. The Tigers secured a 1-0 victory in the opener with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. In the nightcap, West Alabama won 7-0.

In Game 1, a pitcher’s duel was decided in the final moments. The Choctaws appeared to take the lead in the seventh inning when Hadley Lemons hit what was initially ruled a go-ahead single with two outs. After video review, the run was overturned due to a runner leaving first base early, keeping the game tied. West Alabama’s Kayla Morris then hit a walk-off home run to left field, ending the game.

Camryn Bailey pitched well for Mississippi College, allowing one run on five hits with 11 strikeouts over eight innings. Eleanor De Block pitched a complete game for West Alabama, striking out six and earning the shutout.

The Tigers carried their momentum into Game 2, scoring two runs in the second inning, one in the third, and a four-run fifth highlighted by a grand slam from ShaKeria Washington. The Choctaws managed six hits but could not score. Reagan Rios took the loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, in five innings.

Mississippi College, now 28-21-1 overall and 18-14 in Gulf South Conference play, will try to recover in the series finale against West Alabama on Friday at 10 a.m. in Livingston, Alabama.
