Ole Miss Softball Falls 1-0 in Pitching Duel Against No. 16 Mississippi State

Oxford, Miss. — The Ole Miss softball team lost a 1-0 game to No. 16 Mississippi State on Thursday night at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The Rebels, now 30-23 overall and 4-18 in Southeastern Conference play, were led by pitcher Emilee Boyer, who threw a complete game, allowing one run on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

Mississippi State, with a 37-15 record and a 9-13 SEC mark, was led by pitcher Alyssa Faircloth, who also pitched a complete game shutout. Faircloth kept the Rebel offense at bay, opening the game with 4.1 hitless innings before Cassie Reasner broke up her no-hit bid with an infield single.

The Bulldogs scored the game’s only run in the second inning on a solo home run by Kiarra Sells. Despite a near-homer from Persy Llamas in the first inning and a hit-by-pitch for Kennedy Bunker in the sixth, Ole Miss was unable to mount a rally against Faircloth’s dominant pitching.

Rebels coach Jamie Trachsel praised Boyer’s effort on the mound but noted the team’s struggle to solve Faircloth. Ole Miss will host Mississippi State for game two of the series Friday at 6 p.m. CT, with the game available on SEC Network Plus. Fans are encouraged to join Rebel Rewards, the official fan loyalty program, for exclusive prizes.

Ole Miss’s next game against Mississippi State is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. CT. The series continues with another game Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. Details and tickets are available through the university’s athletic website.
