Games To Watch: Unbeaten Amite County visits Wesson; district tests fill Friday slate
Amite County and Wesson take perfect season records into Friday’s meeting in Wesson, while Lake Cormorant puts its unbeaten start on the line at Center Hill. Those games anchor an October 16 football selection built around teams with strong records and district opportunities. All five featured matchups are scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.
Amite County at Wesson: Two perfect starts
Amite County arrives 6–0 to face a Wesson team that has won all seven of its games. The district records are clean, too: the Trojans are 1–0 and the Cobras 2–0. MaxPreps lists just 12 points allowed for Amite County this season and 40 for Wesson, a pair of reported defensive totals that add to the interest in this meeting.
Lake Cormorant at Center Hill: District momentum at stake
Lake Cormorant enters 6–0, but its next road assignment is against a 5–1 Center Hill team that also won its district opener. The Mustangs beat Grenada 28–14 on October 9 and now return home with a chance to build on that result. Both teams are 1–0 in district play, so Friday offers each a chance to strengthen its start against an opponent with a winning record.
Oxford at Germantown: Winning district starts meet
Oxford brings a 5–1 record to Germantown, where the Mavericks enter 4–2 after a 38–28 victory at Starkville on October 9. Both teams are 1–0 in district play. Germantown earned its opening district win on the road; Friday gives it a chance to follow that result at home against a Chargers team with only one loss.
Center Hill and Germantown both earned those victories away from home. Our October 9 football roundup revisits their wins and the other verified results from that night.
Brandon at Petal: Petal seeks its first district win
Brandon’s 5–1 overall record comes with a 1–0 district start. Petal has six wins against one loss overall, but its district mark is 0–1. That gives the Panthers a clear opportunity at home: turn a strong season record into their first district victory, while Brandon tries to add to its opening win. Read our earlier coverage of Petal for more on the Panthers’ season.
Tishomingo County at Corinth: Matching overall records
Corinth and visiting Tishomingo County both enter 4–2, with neither having lost in district play. The Warriors are 2–0 in the district; the Braves are 1–0. The game is also Corinth’s homecoming, according to Alcorn Sports.
