Games To Watch: Booneville, Warren Central and Brookhaven face region tests
Booneville, Warren Central and Brookhaven are each 7–0, but their Friday opponents have yet to lose a region game either. Alcorn Central visits Booneville, Neshoba Central travels to Warren Central, and South Jones hosts Brookhaven in three meetings that put strong league starts directly against one another.
Those games lead this selection of five boys varsity football matchups for Friday, October 23, 2026. Oak Grove at Brandon and Center Hill at Olive Branch round out the evening. All five are scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.
Alcorn Central at Booneville: clean region records meet
Booneville’s perfect season includes a 3–0 start in Class 3A Region 1. Alcorn Central arrives 5–3 overall, with a 2–0 region mark that gives the Golden Bears a clear stake in the road meeting. Their overall records differ, but neither has taken a loss in league play.
The teams also arrive off different October 16 results. Booneville defeated Mantachie 21–7 in conference play, while Alcorn Central lost 28–20 to Mooreville in a nonconference game. That loss left Central’s region record intact; tonight brings the Bears back into league competition against an unbeaten opponent.
Neshoba Central at Warren Central: matching league starts
Warren Central is 7–0 overall and 2–0 in Class 6A Region 2. Neshoba Central brings a 5–2 record, its own 2–0 league start and three consecutive wins into the Vicksburg game. The Rockets’ current run gives Warren a challenger carrying momentum as well as an unblemished region record.
Brookhaven at South Jones: unbeaten visitors, unbeaten hosts at home
Brookhaven takes its 7–0 record and 2–0 Class 5A Region 3 start to Ellisville, where South Jones is 6–2 overall and also 2–0 in the region. The Braves have won five straight and are 4–0 at home. Brookhaven has won all three of its road games, setting up a meeting between a host that has protected its home field and a visitor that has kept winning away from home.
Oak Grove at Brandon: close finishes shape the matchup
Oak Grove enters 6–1 overall and 2–0 in Class 7A Region 3 after six consecutive wins. Its latest was a 21–20 victory over Meridian on October 16. Brandon’s last game that same night went the other way, a 35–34 loss at Petal that left the Bulldogs 5–2 overall and 1–1 in the region. Tonight’s Brandon matchup gives Oak Grove another league test and Brandon a chance to answer that narrow defeat at home.
Center Hill at Olive Branch: a response after region losses
Center Hill and Olive Branch both return from October 16 league losses. Lake Cormorant beat Center Hill 14–9; Grenada defeated Olive Branch 14–7. The Mustangs now stand 5–2 overall and 1–1 in Class 6A Region 1, while the Conquistadors are 3–5 and 0–2. The county matchup offers Center Hill a chance for a second region victory and Olive Branch an opportunity for its first.
Our October 16 varsity roundup revisits Brandon’s loss at Petal and Center Hill’s defeat against Lake Cormorant, providing the previous week’s context for two of tonight’s selections.
