Southwest Men’s Soccer earns first win with clean sheet in Texas

Southwest Men’s Soccer traveled to Texas this weekend for a pair of matches against Jacksonville College and East Texas Baptist University. On Friday, August 21, the Bears faced Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Texas, falling 1-0 in a defensive battle. David Farkas played all 90 minutes in goal and made six saves.

The team quickly turned around for a second game on Saturday, August 22, against East Texas Baptist in Marshall, Texas. Theo Tayau scored the first goal of the season for Southwest in the seventh minute, assisted by Ilan Marin. Louis Cypers added another goal in the 38th minute, also assisted by Marin, giving the Bears a 2-0 lead.

Farkas again played all 90 minutes, earning a clean sheet with eight saves and no goals allowed. The victory marked Southwest’s first win of the season, leaving their record at 1-1. The Bears are scheduled to travel to Mobile, Alabama, on September 2 to face the University of Mobile.
