Southeastern Louisiana Dominates Alcorn in Softball Shutout

Southeastern Louisiana routed Alcorn 13-0 Tuesday in Hammond, Louisiana, in nonconference softball play. Shelby Morris went 3-for-3 with five RBIs, including a home run and a double, to lead the Lions’ offense.

Morris sparked a seven-run second inning with an inside-the-park three-run homer to left-center, scoring Brilee Ford and Shenita Tucker. She added a two-run double in the third and a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Ka’Lyn Watson hit her sixth home run of the season in the second inning, and Cydnee Schneider went 1-for-2 with two triples and two RBIs. Maria Detillier also contributed with a 3-for-3 effort, producing a double, a single and three RBIs. Shortstop Chloe Magee added a triple and an RBI for the Lions.

Southeastern Louisiana’s pitching staff kept Alcorn off the board. Starter Hallie Burns earned the win, throwing a scoreless first inning before a bullpen of six Lions pitchers combined to hold the Braves to one hit over the final four innings. Olison took the loss for Alcorn, allowing seven runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings. Olivia Miller and Alainah Felton surrendered six additional runs in relief.

Alcorn’s lone hit was a double by Layla Watts in the fourth inning. The Braves fell to 13-31 overall, while Southeastern Louisiana improved to 42-11. The Lions now prepare for SWAC play, hosting UAPB in a doubleheader Thursday at 2 p.m. at Alcorn Softball Complex. The series was moved up a day due to weather.
