Owls Clinch Series with Eureka in 14-4 Win

The Mississippi University for Women softball team defeated Eureka College 14-4 in the series rubber game at CCA Field, securing the series two games to one. The Owls totaled 17 hits in the game, boosting their season record to 19-15 overall and 13-6 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Eureka scored first, but the Owls responded with runs in six of eight innings, including five with multiple runs. All nine starting hitters recorded at least one hit, led by senior centerfielder Matthew Windham, who went 4-for-5 with a double, five RBIs, and two stolen bases. Windham also scored twice and was hit by a pitch.

Leadoff hitter Windham’s performance was complemented by Swayze Rikard, who went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two steals. Other players with multi-hit games included Jay Marbutt, Baron Brack, and catcher Michael O’Neill. Johnson extended his hitting streak to 21 games, reaching base in 34 consecutive contests.

Pitching played a key role for the Owls, with starter Chris Ellis allowing three hits and one earned run in three innings. Campbell McCluney earned the win after four innings, giving up four hits and two runs. Will Carter closed the game, tossing the eighth inning with two strikeouts and allowing one run.

The Owls’ offensive and pitching efforts led to their decisive victory, concluding the series with a win in the rubber game against Eureka College.
