Alabama State advances past Jackson State in SWAC men’s tennis semifinals

NEW ORLEANS — The Jackson State men’s tennis team’s season concluded Saturday after a 4-1 loss to Alabama State in the semifinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament.

The Tigers started strong in doubles, winning the first match. However, Alabama State’s Vid Maric and Gordan Mileusnic defeated Jackson State’s Ching Chang Chiu and Chen Hung-Yu 6-3 to give the Hornets an early lead. Jackson State’s Federico Pieckenstainer and Jhoan Vaquero tied the doubles score with a 6-2 win over Eloi Roux and Milan Ristov. Alabama State secured the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at the second position.

In singles play, the Hornets took control, winning three matches to clinch the victory. Several matches extended to three sets, with Hung-Yu and Chiu fighting hard to stay competitive. The match marked the final collegiate appearances for Pieckenstainer, Vaquero, and Ayar, who competed in their last matches in Jackson State uniforms.
