Ole Miss Tops Louisville 41-38 in Season Opener at Nashville

The University of Mississippi football team opened the season with a dramatic 41-38 victory over Louisville at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on Sunday night. The Rebels, ranked No. 9 nationally, improved to 98-29-5 in season openers and have won 25 of their last 30 season openers, according to school records.

Ole Miss overcame a 13-10 deficit early in the third quarter to secure the win. The offense scored 31 points after halftime, with Trinidad Chambliss accounting for all four touchdowns. Chambliss finished with 336 passing yards, his ninth career 300-yard game at Ole Miss, placing him seventh in school history behind Eli Manning.

After the game, coach Pete Golding praised the atmosphere and the matchup, describing it as akin to a playoff game. “Louisville is really well coached with really good players,” Golding said. “This was a great test to see what we have.”

Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss expressed confidence in his team, emphasizing their trust in him. “My team has all the trust in me,” he said. “They believe that I’m a really good quarterback and that I will have mistakes sometimes but I’m human.” He also noted his ability to throw and rush for touchdowns in the same game six times during his career.

First-time starter wide receiver Deuce Alexander delivered a standout performance, with 159 receiving yards on two 62-yard touchdowns. This marked his first 100-yard game at Ole Miss, surpassing his previous best of 94 yards. Alexander credited the team’s behind-the-scenes work for their success and highlighted the importance of learning and adapting on the fly.
