Ole Miss Soccer earns first road win of season at Louisiana

LAKE CHARLES, La. — Ole Miss soccer recorded its first road victory of the season Sunday, defeating Louisiana 2-1 at the Home Bank Soccer & Track Complex.

The Rebels scored twice within the first 12 minutes, with Isabella Pontieri and Paxton Bock each netting their first goals of the season. Pontieri scored in the 10th minute, assisted by Audrey Shackelford, while Bock added a second in the 12th minute, assisted by Maizy Kluksdal.

Louisiana responded in the second half with a goal from Miku Kurihara in the 54th minute, but Ole Miss maintained its lead. The Rebels’ goalkeeper, Taylor Prigge, made one save and played all 90 minutes, earning her second win of the season.

Ole Miss improved to 2-0-0 under first-year coach Todd Shulenberger. The team finished with five shots on goal, compared to Louisiana’s two, and held 54% possession. The Rebels also earned all seven corner kicks in the match.

Ole Miss will next face the College of Charleston on Thursday in Charleston, South Carolina, with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern Time, according to the university.
