Ole Miss Prepares for Season Opener Against Louisville with Focused Practice

OXFORD, Miss. — As game week begins, Ole Miss football is focusing on its upcoming matchup against Louisville. The Rebels are wrapping up preparations after a lengthy offseason and fall camp, aiming to translate effort into performance on Sunday.

Head coach Pete Golding discussed the team’s recent scrimmage, noting improvements but also areas needing attention. Golding highlighted communication issues during the mock game, warning that failure to address them could cost the Rebels in their season opener against Louisville. He praised Louisville’s running back Isaac Brown, who averaged 8.8 yards per carry last season, calling him a significant threat.

Golding also pointed out Louisville’s athletic defensive edges and their strong pass defense last year. He emphasized the importance of protecting the football, running the ball effectively, and winning the turnover battle, comparing the game to an SEC contest. Despite concerns about sleep the night before the game, Golding said the work done during the week provides confidence and rest.

Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss expressed excitement about finally facing an opponent, highlighting his growth in leadership and football IQ since last season. He praised his receiver group for their eagerness to learn and support him on the field.

Running back Kewan Lacy, whose image was featured on promotional displays in Las Vegas and Times Square, shared his focus on staying prepared and having fun during the game. He also spoke about the improving chemistry with Chambliss and the added explosiveness in the backfield this season.

Safety Sharif Denson, who transferred from Florida, noted that the secondary has developed strong chemistry during camp. He credited Saturday’s mock game for helping reduce nerves and build confidence heading into the season opener.
