Ole Miss Opens 2026 Football Season Against Louisville in Nashville

The University of Mississippi football team, ranked No. 15 nationally, begins its 2026 season Sunday at 6:30 p.m. CT with a matchup against Louisville in Nashville’s Nissan Stadium. The game is part of the Music City Kickoff.

Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding, in his first full season leading the Rebels, has compiled a 2-1 record as a head coach. Last season, he guided Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff semifinals. Golding’s teams have recorded a combined 96-14 (.873) record over eight seasons with at least 10 wins each.

The Rebels are making their sixth consecutive appearance in the top 10 of the national rankings, starting the season at No. 9 in the AP poll and No. 10 in the Coaches poll. The team returns star players quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy, both of whom had impressive campaigns in 2025.

Chambliss threw for 3,937 yards, 22 touchdowns, and only three interceptions last season. Lacy led all FBS players with 306 carries, rushing for 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns. Ole Miss has a strong tradition of starting seasons well, holding a 97-29-5 record in season openers and winning five straight openers, including a 63-7 victory over Georgia State in 2025.

Louisville, ranked 24th, is coached by Jeff Brohm in his fourth season. The Cardinals hold a 28-12 record under Brohm and have a 10-16 mark in ranked matchups. Louisville’s recent notable victory was a 24-21 win over No. 2 Miami last year. The team also holds a 2-2 record against top-10 opponents during Brohm’s tenure.
