Eugene, Ore. — Kayden Hulet, an upcoming Ole Miss track and field athlete, finished second in the men’s hammer throw at the World Athletics U20 Championships this weekend at Hayward Field. Hulet’s final throw of 77.55 meters secured his silver medal, marking a personal best and the second-longest throw in U.S. U20 history, according to USATF.
The Nevada native qualified for the final among a competitive international field. In the final round, Hulet launched his sixth and final throw just over 77 meters, surpassing his previous best and clinching second place. His performance made him the first American to win a silver medal in the men’s hammer throw at the U20 championships since 2008.
Hulet’s coach and USATF officials praised his effort, noting that the throw ranks as the No. 2 all-time among U.S. U20 athletes. The athlete is set to join the Ole Miss track and field team in the upcoming season, as he continues to develop as a top young hammer thrower.
Hulet’s achievement highlights a successful year for the Ole Miss program, which has seen multiple athletes compete at national and international levels. The university’s track and field program continues to build on its reputation for developing elite competitors.
