Northwest Mississippi Volleyball Sweeps Highland and Snead State in Pensacola

The Northwest Mississippi Community College volleyball team improved to 8-0 this season after winning two straight-set matches at the Pensacola State Invitational. The Rangers defeated Highland Community College 3-0 and Snead State Community College 3-0.

In the opening match against Highland, Northwest led early and secured a 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 victory. The Rangers built an early lead in the first set and maintained momentum throughout. Highland fought back in the second set but could not overcome Northwest’s strong offense. The third set was closely contested until Northwest pulled ahead and closed out the match with a final score of 25-21.

Leading the team offensively, Sofia Gonzalez posted 13 kills, while Ariana Woods added 11. Valerie Hurdle recorded a career-high nine kills with a .444 hitting percentage. The team was well-distributed in assists, with Chloe Rodriguez and Dallas White each tallying 17 and 15, respectively. Jania Rose contributed 24 digs, her best performance of the season, and Northwest combined for eight blocks, including contributions from Woods and Rodriguez.

Northwest continued its winning streak with a dominant 3-0 win over Snead State, hitting .320 as a team. Woods led with 14 kills and six blocks, while Gonzalez added 10 kills on 18 attempts. Rodriguez and White each dished out 16 assists. The team showcased its serve game with 11 aces, including three from Gonzalez and Callahan.

The Rangers will resume MACCC play next week with matches against East Central Community College and Itawamba Community College. They will travel to East Central on Monday at 6 p.m. before hosting Itawamba at Howard Coliseum on Wednesday.
