No. 22 Rhodes tops No. 21 Belhaven in midweek baseball clash
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — No. 22 Rhodes defeated No. 21 Belhaven 17-6 in a midweek college baseball game Tuesday. The Lynx capitalized on two big innings to secure the victory, improving to 22-12 overall.
Belhaven had early scoring opportunities but couldn’t convert. In the first inning, Austin Canale doubled and Parker Ryan walked, but a lineout ended the threat. The Blazers broke through in the third when Blake McCarthy tripled and scored on a groundout by Canale, tying the game at 1-1.
Rhodes responded in the bottom half with a four-run inning, taking a 5-1 lead with a mix of singles and a double. Belhaven cut into the deficit in the fifth, highlighted by Owen Abney’s two-run homer and Trey Flettrich’s two-run shot, making it 8-6.
However, Rhodes answered immediately, scoring seven runs in the sixth on five hits, including a home run, to push the lead to 15-6. Two more runs came in the seventh on a two-run homer, extending the margin to 17-6.
Belhaven’s pitching staff kept the team in the game late, but the extended sixth inning proved decisive. The Blazers return home this weekend to face Asbury in a three-game series beginning Friday.
