No. 17 Ole Miss Baseball Falls to No. 22 Arkansas in Series Opener
Fayetteville, Ark. — No. 17 Ole Miss baseball (31-16, 11-11 SEC) was defeated by No. 22 Arkansas (31-16, 12-10 SEC) 12-2 in seven innings Friday night. The Rebels recorded six hits and scored two runs, both on solo home runs by Judd Utermark and Austin Fawley, according to the game summary.
Utermark’s home run was his 47th career, bringing him one shy of the all-time school record, the team said. Hunter Elliott allowed six earned runs on three home runs over three innings, marking the first time in his career he surrendered three homers in a game.
The Razorbacks opened the scoring early, with TJ Pompey hitting a three-run homer in the second inning. Camden Kozeal added a two-run shot in the third, followed by Kuhio Aloy’s solo homer in the fourth, pushing Arkansas ahead 6-0. Utermark’s solo shot in the sixth inning put Ole Miss on the board, but Arkansas responded with a five-run bottom half to extend the lead to 11-1.
Fawley hit his home run in the top of the seventh, but Arkansas secured the walk-off victory with a double in the bottom of the inning. The teams are scheduled to play the second game of the series Saturday at 2 p.m., according to the team’s schedule.
