Jackson State’s Kibet Wins 5K at Maroon and White Tune Up

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Jackson State freshman Collins Kibet won the 5,000-meter run at the Maroon and White Tune Up over the weekend, marking his first career victory in the event. The Eldoret, Kenya, native finished with a time of 15:06.58.

Competing in the regular season finale, Kibet was followed by Duncan Koima, who finished with a time of 15:19.70. Rickey Green III posted a personal best of 14.18 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to secure second place. Jaime Henderson Jr. also earned a podium spot, finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.31 seconds.

In field events, Jared Lockhart threw 51.68 meters in the javelin, earning third place in his first college meet. Sophomore Micah O’Daniel leaped 14.21 meters in the triple jump for third place. On the women’s side, Lorine Jelagat set a personal best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:07.26. Malayna Mallory threw 50.72 meters in the hammer throw to finish second, while Nedgine Morancy leaped 12.06 meters in the triple jump for third.

The Tigers will now prepare for the SWAC Outdoor Championships in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, scheduled for May 10-12, according to team officials. Jackson State aims to continue its strong postseason push at the upcoming meet.
