Montevallo’s Kellum Makes School History as First Decathlete

MONTEVALLO, Ala. — University of Montevallo sophomore Noel Kellum made history Friday and Saturday at the Falcon Classic by becoming the school’s first decathlete.

Kellum scored 4,718 points, placing third overall in the 10-event competition. His score is the highest ever for a Montevallo athlete, surpassing previous records and ranking just behind two NCAA Division II athletes.

The decathlon includes events such as the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meters, 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500 meters. Kellum excelled in several disciplines, winning the javelin (45.51 meters), discus (36.23 meters), and shot put (11.71 meters). He also finished second in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:57.13.

Kellum’s versatility extends beyond the decathlon; he also competes in cross country and throws events for MUW. Additionally, he placed 11th in the open javelin at 40.91 meters.

Due to spring break, only five men from The W competed at the event, which took place over the weekend.
