Mississippi Valley State Track & Field Excels Despite Weather Delays at Mike McMillan Twilight Invitational
Clinton, Miss. — The Mississippi Valley State University track and field team faced four weather delays at the Mike McMillan Twilight Invitational but still managed to secure three podium finishes, according to school officials.
All three podium spots came from the men’s team. The 4×100-meter relay team finished third with a time of 42.38 seconds, ranking among the top 50 times among HBCUs this season. Jusden Culpepper set a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 13.67 meters, earning third place. Kristian Miller also finished third in the shot put with a distance of 11.93 meters.
Two other men’s athletes narrowly missed podiums. Allen Jenkins placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.52 meters, and Devin King finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 10.40 meters. Miller added a sixth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 35.89 meters. Culpepper and Henry Espy placed in the top 10 in the long jump, measuring 6.10 meters and 6.07 meters, respectively.
The women’s team placed multiple athletes in the top eight in field events. Aniyah Thomas led the shot put group with a throw of 10.45 meters, finishing fourth overall. She also took seventh in the discus with a mark of 35.41 meters. Nyla Snead and Jaazaniah Calvert contributed points with long jumps of 5.15 meters and 4.94 meters, respectively.
In the running events, Janet Cheboi posted the top finish for the Green and White, clocking 5:30.59 to place ninth in the 1,500-meter run. Head coach Michael Snapp’s team next competes at the Maroon and White Tune Up on April 30 and May 1 at Mississippi State University, leading into the SWAC Championship season.
