Mississippi Valley Softball Ends Season with Loss to Alabama State

Mississippi Valley State University’s softball team lost to Alabama State 13-5 Saturday at the Barbara Williams Complex in Montgomery, Alabama, ending its 2026 campaign. The Diamond Devils finished with a record of 1-38 overall and 0-24 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

Alabama State, with a 22-30 record and a 15-9 conference mark, maintained a dominant lead in the series history, now holding a 77-46 advantage over Mississippi Valley. The Hornets have won 21 straight games against the Diamond Devils, whose last victory was on April 9, 2022.

Sheridan Kynard was a bright spot for Mississippi Valley, reaching safely in both of her at-bats, including a triple and a single. She also drove in two runs and scored once. Taniya Partee and Michelle Diaz each went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, with Partee adding an RBI. Devyn Dotson drew the only walk for the team, and Madison Bruce and Hailey Akers contributed with singles and a bunt sacrifice, respectively.

Alabama State took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Hornets extended their lead with a six-run sixth inning, highlighted by a three-RBI double from Talee Sims and a steal of home by Ayana Frank. Mississippi Valley scored five runs overall but could not keep pace, falling in the season finale.
