Berry Sweeps Millsaps in Three-Game Series
ROME, Ga. — Berry College swept Millsaps College in a three-game baseball series over the weekend. The Vikings won 4-3 and 12-5 on Friday before securing a 5-4 victory with a walk-off hit Saturday at William R. Bowdoin Field, according to game summaries.
In the series opener, Millsaps led early but fell 4-3. Sophomore pitcher Jackson Devey threw 6.1 innings, allowing three runs with two strikeouts. Millsaps took an early 2-0 lead with RBI singles from senior Layne Cross and a bases-loaded walk by Veal Jr. Berry responded with two runs in the fifth to tie the game, then won on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth, the school said.
The Majors lost 12-5 in Friday’s second game. Berry tallied 16 hits and drew 10 walks, while Millsaps had nine hits. Senior Sam Thomas led Millsaps with two RBIs and a home run. Freshman Carston Williams contributed with two hits and a stolen base. Berry gained control with a four-run inning in the fourth and added three more in the eighth, finishing with the victory.
The final game saw Millsaps take an early 4-0 lead, highlighted by a three-run home run from Thomas. Senior Andrew Bradley pitched seven strong innings, allowing only one run. Berry rallied with a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings. The Vikings then scored two runs on a walk and a single to walk off with a 5-4 win, the school reported.
The Majors are scheduled to host Southwestern University on March 1 for a doubleheader and will celebrate Senior Day the following Saturday. Live streams and stats will be available at gomajors.com, according to the college.
