Mississippi State’s Bryce Chance Reflects on Dream Come True

STARKVILLE — Bryce Chance has played his final game at Dudy Noble Field. The Mississippi State baseball player, known as the ‘dinosaur’ for his long tenure, reflected on his journey Saturday.

Chance, a five-year Bulldog, has been part of the program since 2020. His story symbolizes a love for the school and perseverance through changing college sports landscapes, according to the university.

Chance’s passion for Mississippi State started early. As a child, he attended Bulldogs football games, wearing a custom Tyson Lee jersey and a crooked replica helmet. His father, Chris, and mother, Angie, are both State alumni, deepening Bryce’s roots in the Maroon and White tradition.

Despite early dedication, Chance faced setbacks. Before his senior year at Madison-Ridgeland Academy, he had no college offers. His recruitment gained momentum after a viral home run during summer ball caught the attention of Mississippi State coaches. He ultimately decided to walk on at State after receiving an informal offer from former MSU hitting coach Jake Gautreau.

Chance initially redshirted, experiencing a challenging adjustment period. He used that year to develop as a player and teammate. His perseverance paid off when he became a regular starter in 2023, posting a .320 batting average with 14 home runs and 135 RBIs through his college career. He is known for his contact hitting, with a low strikeout rate, and flawless fielding, holding a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Now, as Mississippi State competes in a Super Regional, Chance’s journey exemplifies dedication. He encourages younger players to share their stories and emphasizes leadership rooted in personal experience. His teammate, freshman Jacob Parker, praised him as a role model for resilience and commitment.
