Mississippi State women’s soccer extends winning streak with 2-0 victory over Alcorn State

Mississippi State’s women’s soccer team defeated Alcorn State 2-0 Sunday night, extending its winning streak against in-state programs to nine games. Elsa Johnson scored both goals, marking her first career multi-goal game, with assists from Hailey Johnson.

Elsa Johnson opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a lob shot over the goalkeeper, off the inside of the far post. The goal was set up by a quick throw-in from Reese Wheeler, flicked on by Hailey Johnson to Elsa, who scored from just outside the right edge of the box, according to the match report.

Head coach Kevin O’Brien praised Elsa Johnson’s performance, noting her potential to be a consistent threat. “She was dynamic, and when she’s going, she’s hard to handle,” he said.

In the 68th minute, Elsa Johnson added her second goal after a pass from Hailey Johnson. The Bulldogs dominated the second half, firing 12 shots without allowing any attempts by Alcorn State. Jenny Harrison recorded her second solo shutout of the season, making a critical save in the 27th minute to keep the game scoreless.

With the win, Mississippi State now has 15 goals on the season, tying for the third-highest total in program history through five matches. The Bulldogs’ goal differential stands at plus-13, their second-highest through five games.
