Mississippi State women’s basketball faces No. 23 Alabama in Tuscaloosa

Mississippi State women’s basketball will play at Alabama on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Tuscaloosa. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+ and available on the MSU Radio Network, 96.1 FM in Starkville.

The Bulldogs enter the matchup with a 15-5 overall record and a 2-4 mark in Southeastern Conference play. They recently defeated seventh-ranked Kentucky 71-59, their highest-ranked win under head coach Sam Purcell this season.

Kharyssa Richardson led the Bulldogs with a career-high 23 points and seven rebounds in that game. Favour Nwaedozi posted her ninth double-double of the season with 10 points and 21 rebounds. Madison Francis, who leads the SEC with six blocks per game, scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds and had six blocks, her fourth game with six or more blocks this season.

Chandler Prater contributed 10 points and 6.3 rebounds, shooting a season-best 46.5% from the field. State is seeking consecutive wins over top-25 opponents for the first time since February 2020.

Alabama, ranked 23rd, is 17-3 overall and 3-3 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide suffered their first home loss of the season last week, falling to No. 20 Tennessee 70-59. Prior to that, Alabama was 14-0 at home. Key players include Jessica Timmons, averaging 15.8 points, and Karly Weathers, with 10.0 points per game. Alabama has been without injured guard Essence Cody since Jan. 8 and has gone 1-2 without her.

The series favors Alabama, which leads 41-24 overall and has won the last two meetings. When games are played in Tuscaloosa, Alabama has won 18 of 30 matchups. The last ten meetings are evenly split with five wins each.
