Mississippi State Softball Players Shine in Summer Leagues

Four Mississippi State softball players posted notable summer performances, earning league honors and helping their teams secure championships, according to school officials.

Leila Ammon and Gretta Grassel played for the Madison Night Mares in the Northwoods League. Madison finished first in the regular season with a 36-6 record. Ammon, a rising junior, was named an All-Star after posting a 4-0 record with a 2.12 ERA over 29.2 innings. She struck out 32 batters and walked just eight, highlighted by a complete-game, three-hit effort against Wausau.

Gretta Grassel delivered an efficient offensive season, batting .316 in 17 games with five doubles, one home run, 18 RBIs, and 17 runs scored. She also stole six bases, with her best game coming against Mankato, where she went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.

Meanwhile, in the Scenic City Collegiate League, Ally Supan was named the league’s Player of the Year after a dominant 24-game stretch. She hit .597, scored in 23 of 24 games, and led with 46 hits. Supan also hit nine home runs, stole 23 bases, and had a .652 on-base percentage. In the league championship game, she went 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs, helping her team, the Smokies, secure the title.

Kalani Sells earned the Impact Player of the Year honor in the Lone Star Collegiate League. She posted a 1.286 OPS, with 11 doubles, two triples, and two home runs. Sells batted .455, scored 18 runs, drove in 16, and stole 13 bases. Her performances helped the Ninebands finish 17-5 in the regular season, though they fell in the league championship game.
