Mississippi State Hosts Georgia in NCAA Tennis Super Regional
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State hosts Georgia on Saturday at 12 p.m. in the NCAA Tournament Super Regional at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The match will determine which team advances to the NCAA Championship.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 6 nationally, enter the match after sweeping Tennessee Tech and Wisconsin in the regional rounds, not surrendering a team point in either match. Georgia, the regional winner from Athens, defeated North Carolina State 4-0 in the final.
Mississippi State beat Georgia 4-2 earlier this season in Starkville. The Bulldogs are trying to secure a trip to the NCAA finals on their home court in front of what is expected to be a large crowd. The team, coached by Matt Roberts, has been a consistent NCAA Tournament presence and ranks among the top teams nationally.
State’s success this year has been built on depth and performance against elite opponents. The Bulldogs faced many ranked teams during SEC play and reached the SEC Tournament final. Georgia also boasts a strong postseason history and remains one of college tennis’ most accomplished programs.
Mississippi State features several notable players, including Benito Sanchez Martinez, ranked No. 9 nationally in singles, and Petar Jovanovic, who set the program record for wins. The Bulldogs hold a 12-62 all-time series record against Georgia but have won five of their past six matchups under Roberts, including their earlier victory this season.
Fans can follow the match via live stream and live stats, with ticket information available through the university’s athletic website. The winner advances to the NCAA Championships, with the match representing one of the program’s biggest postseason opportunities in recent years.
