Mississippi Native Macie Phifer Transfers to Mississippi State Women’s Basketball
Mississippi State women’s basketball announced the addition of Macie Phifer, a rising sophomore and one of the most decorated high school athletes from Mississippi, for the 2026-27 season.
Phifer, a 6-foot-1 guard from New Albany, Mississippi, played her first college season at Middle Tennessee State. She started all 33 games for the Blue Raiders, averaging 11.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game, according to school officials.
She earned All-Conference USA Honorable Mention and Freshman team honors. Phifer scored in double figures 17 times last season, including four 20-plus point performances. Her season high was 22 points against Delaware, where she shot 9-for-12 from the field and made four three-pointers on five attempts.
Phifer played every minute of four games last season, including an overtime contest against Florida International University, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals in 50 minutes. She also nearly posted her first career double-double in the Emerald Coast Classic championship game with 13 points and nine rebounds.
The former Ingomar High School standout was a six-year letter winner under coach Trent Adair. She finished her prep career as the all-time leading scorer in school history with 3,519 points. Phifer also excelled in softball and volleyball, earning 11 all-state selections across those sports and winning seven state championships.
Phifer is the second transfer portal addition for the Bulldogs, joining rising senior Cali Smallwood. The team also returns its top scorers from last season, including SEC All-Defensive and All-Freshman team member Madison Francis and Favour Nwaedozi, who averaged a double-double last year. The Bulldogs will also add freshmen Lani Smallwood, Alabama’s Gatorade Girl’s Player of the Year, and Tennessee’s Miss Basketball, Andrea Flores.
