Millsaps Soccer Teams Picked Ninth in SAA Preseason Polls

The Millsaps College men’s and women’s soccer programs were projected to finish ninth in the 2026 Southern Athletic Association preseason polls, according to votes by league coaches announced Wednesday.

On the men’s side, Trinity University received 72 points and eight first-place votes to top the poll. Southwestern University was second with 55 points and one first-place vote, while Berry College placed third with 54 points. Millsaps was listed ninth with 16 points. The men’s team is led by head coach Gentry Johnson, assisted by Stephen Roberson, Derek Anderson, and Michael Azzarone. The team will enter the season with a roster of 43 players, aiming to improve within the conference.

In the women’s poll, Trinity University was also first, earning 71 points and seven first-place votes. Sewanee followed with 64 points and two first-place votes, and Rhodes College was third with 58 points. Millsaps finished ninth with 16 points. The women’s team is coached by Luke Schwarz, with assistants Lauren Samford and Mary Ranager. The Majors will open their season at home against Huntingdon College on Sept. 1, while the men’s team will travel to Pensacola Christian College for their opener on Sept. 4.

Millsaps College, founded in 1890 in Jackson, Mississippi, is a private liberal arts institution dedicated to academic excellence and social progress. The college has received recognition from several national rankings and publications, including The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
