Millsaps Women Top SAA Preseason Basketball Poll
Millsaps College was selected as the Southern Athletic Association’s top women’s basketball team in the 2026-27 preseason poll, earning 71 points and seven first-place votes, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The selection marks the first time a Millsaps team has been picked No. 1 in an SAA preseason poll since the league began holding them in 2021-22. Trinity placed second with 62 points and two first-place votes. Berry was third with 55 points.
The Majors finished 21-8 overall and 9-5 in conference play last season. They won their second SAA postseason title, beating Southwestern, Centre and Trinity in the tournament, and earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history.
Senior Garin Freeman returns after earning All-SAA first-team honors, tournament MVP recognition and a spot on the SAA All-Tournament Team in 2026. Classmate Tia Anderson, an All-SAA second-team selection last season, is also back.
Head coach Jeff Wilbur and assistant coach Ciara Jackson will lead Millsaps this season. The Majors are scheduled to open at Huntingdon at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, according to the announcement.
Centre finished fourth in the poll with 51 points, followed by Southwestern with 49, Oglethorpe with 35, Maryville with 28, Sewanee with 26 and Rhodes with 19.
