Millsaps Men’s Tennis Ends Season with Loss to Maryville

The Millsaps College men’s tennis team played its final match of the season Saturday against Maryville College in Jackson, Mississippi. The team honored senior Sam Tuli on Senior Day.

The Majors earned two points with wins from freshmen Anderson Causey and Jon Nguyen. Causey defeated James Smith 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 on Court One, while Nguyen won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Freshman Cooper Payne and sophomore Sebastian Gonzalez teamed for a 6-1 doubles victory on Court Three.

Tuli finished the season with a 9-9 singles record and an 8-10 doubles mark. Causey went 6-2 mainly at No. 1 singles, and Nguyen finished 7-10, mostly at No. 3 singles.

The match results included doubles wins for Maryville College, with Smith/Fitzsimmons defeating Nguyen/Tuli 6-2 and Myatt/Meyer beating Anderson/Schiaffino 6-3. Payne/Gonzalez defeated Romano/Cauthorn 6-1.

In singles, Anderson Causey beat James Smith 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. Grant Price of Maryville defeated Tuli 6-4, 6-3. Nguyen beat Field Myatt 6-0, 6-0, and Benjamin Schneider defeated Schiaffino 6-2, 7-5. Eric Vornhagen edged Payne 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-1), and Ga Villalonga Serra defeated Gonzalez 6-3, 6-2.
