Millsaps College to Rejoin SCAC in 2027-28

Millsaps College announced Thursday it will rejoin the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) starting with the 2027-28 academic year. The SCAC’s Presidents Council approved the college’s application, according to the conference.

The college’s teams will compete in the Southern Athletic Association through the 2026-27 season before moving to the SCAC. Millsaps was a member of the conference from 1989 to 2012, winning 22 championships during that time, the school said.

“The SCAC has long been an important part of Millsaps athletics history, and we are excited to renew this longstanding relationship beginning in the fall of 2027,” said athletics director Justin LeBlanc. “Rejoining the SCAC offers new opportunities to strengthen regional competition, renew rivalries and continue developing championship-caliber programs.”

Currently, Millsaps sponsors 19 NCAA Division III varsity sports and has nearly 400 student-athletes. The move aligns with the college’s broader strategic goals to enhance the student-athlete experience and maintain a commitment to academics and athletic excellence.

College President Frank Neville said returning to the SCAC supports Millsaps’ strategic vision. “Joining the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference is a natural fit for Millsaps and an important step in advancing our institutional priorities,” Neville said.

Beginning in the 2027-28 season, Millsaps teams will compete for SCAC titles across all sports, including women’s flag football, which will join the conference in spring 2027. The school’s final season in the Southern Athletic Association will be 2026-27.

Other member institutions in the SCAC include Austin College, Centenary College, Colorado College, Concordia University Texas, University of Dallas, Hendrix College, LeTourneau University, University of the Ozarks, University of St. Thomas, and Texas Lutheran University. Schedules for the upcoming season are expected to be announced in spring and summer 2027.

For more information, the SCAC’s official announcement is available online, and updates will be shared through Millsaps’ social media channels and website.
