MILLSAPS COLLEGE HAS announced the addition of Thomas Watkins as an assistant coach for its men’s and women’s golf programs. The college’s athletics department made the announcement Monday.
“I’m honored to join the Millsaps College golf program as assistant coach,” Watkins said. “Thank you to Coach Fluty and the athletic department for this opportunity. I’m excited to help develop our student-athletes and begin this new chapter of my coaching career.”
Watkins brings a background in athletic coaching, team development, program management, and technical instruction. He was recently recognized by Golf Digest as one of the Best Young Teachers in America for 2025-2026. In 2022, he was named a Best Teacher in Mississippi by the publication. He also received the Robbie Webb Award for his contributions to junior golf in Mississippi.
Since 2015, Watkins has served as the director of golf instruction at Randy Watkins Golf Group in Pearl, Mississippi. There, he oversaw instructional programming and managed operations to promote student retention, clinic participation, and revenue. He also integrated modern training techniques to enhance learning experiences.
Watkins previously spent seven years as the assistant girls’ golf coach at Madison Central High School. His responsibilities included developing training programs, supporting player growth through technical and mental coaching, and coordinating team logistics. He emphasized sportsmanship and long-term athletic development throughout his coaching tenure.
A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Watkins earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies in 2013. He competed on the men’s golf team from 2009 to 2012.
