Millsaps College Adds Thomas Watkins as Assistant Golf Coach
Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, has named Thomas Watkins as the new assistant coach for its men’s and women’s golf teams, the athletics department announced Monday.
“I’m honored to join the Millsaps College golf program as assistant coach,” Watkins said. “Thank you to Coach Fluty and the athletic department for this opportunity. I’m excited to help develop our student-athletes and begin this new chapter of my coaching career.”
Watkins has experience in athletic coaching, team development, program management, strategic leadership, technical instruction, junior golf programming, and staff mentorship. He was recognized by Golf Digest as one of the Best Young Teachers in America for 2025-2026 and was named a Best Teacher in Mississippi in 2022. He also received the Robbie Webb Award for contributions to junior golf in Mississippi.
Since 2015, Watkins has served as the director of golf instruction at Randy Watkins Golf Group in Pearl, Mississippi, overseeing programs, curriculum development, and instructor teams. He managed operations to boost student retention, clinic participation, and revenue, integrating modern training methods and technology.
Watkins spent seven years as the assistant girls’ golf coach at Madison Central High School, where he helped develop training programs and supported player growth through technical and mental coaching. He also coordinated team logistics and fostered a culture of sportsmanship and athletic development.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from the University of Mississippi in 2013, where he played on the men’s golf team from 2009 to 2012.
