Belhaven’s Brett Sanchez Named to D3baseball.com 50th Anniversary Team
MINNEAPOLIS — Brett Sanchez, a former pitcher for Belhaven University, has been named to the D3baseball.com 50th Anniversary Team, the organization announced Friday.
Sanchez earned a spot on the Second Team as a starting pitcher and is the sole Belhaven player to be honored. D3baseball.com selected 68 players across four teams to recognize the top performers from the first 50 years of NCAA Division III baseball.
Sanchez played for the Blazers from 2020 to 2024. He finished his career with a 33-9 record and a 2.18 ERA. Over 388.1 innings, he struck out 408 batters and issued just 59 walks, posting a 0.89 WHIP and holding opponents to a .203 batting average. Sanchez left Belhaven as the program’s career leader in strikeouts, wins, complete games, and shutouts. He recorded 24 complete games and eight shutouts and ranks third in career ERA at the school.
During his five seasons with Belhaven, Sanchez earned three D3baseball.com All-America selections. In 2023, he was named the organization’s National Pitcher of the Year and Region VI Pitcher of the Year. He repeated as a Second Team All-American in 2024. Sanchez also earned CCS Pitcher of the Year honors in 2023 and 2024 and was a first-team all-conference selection four times across the American Southwest Conference and the Collegiate Conference of the South.
The left-hander was a two-time finalist for the Boo Ferriss Trophy and was included on the 2024 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list. The 50th Anniversary Team features several players who went on to successful Major League Baseball careers. Sanchez shares the Second Team pitching staff with notable names such as Billy Wagner, a 2025 Hall of Fame inductee who recorded 422 saves over a 16-year MLB career. Two-time MLB All-Star Jordan Zimmermann and 2002 World Series champion Jarrod Washburn are also part of the team.
