Memphis Tops Mississippi Valley State 11-3 in Tuesday Baseball Game
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mississippi Valley State University’s baseball team fell to Memphis 11-3 Tuesday night in a non-conference game at FedExPark at Avron Fogelman Field.
The Diamond Devils, now 11-22 overall and 7-8 in the SWAC, were defeated by the Tigers, who improved to 12-23 and 4-8 in the American Athletic Conference. Memphis leads the all-time series 11-1 since 1978 and has won the last eight meetings.
Tom Early scored two runs for Mississippi Valley State, both coming after a single and a walk. Jace Jones and Chris Soeder each went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Daniel Scott and Brock Lenhardt pitched scoreless innings, each recording a punchout and no walks. Kendall Brookins reached twice on a hit and a walk, while Jaxon Haynes added an RBI-single.

Memphis took an early lead with a sacrifice fly by Tyler Harrington and a two-run homer by Jack Pitts in the first inning. The Tigers extended their lead with Freddy Rodriguez stealing home and scoring in the third, along with an RBI by Michael Gupton. Mississippi Valley State responded with a pair of runs in the sixth and eighth innings but could not catch up.
The game marked the Diamond Devils’ first loss in Memphis since 2011.
