Mallory, Lewis Set School Records as Jackson State Claims Five Medals at SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships
Birmingham, Alabama — Mallory and Lewis broke school records Saturday at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship. Mallory, a freshman from St. Petersburg, Florida, won the women’s weight throw with a distance of 17.65 meters, setting a new school record.
Korbin Lewis also made history for Jackson State, vaulting 4.42 meters in the men’s pole vault to set a school record. He earned a bronze medal in the event. Jackson State’s Kaiden Berry secured gold in the men’s shot put, throwing 16.39 meters.
In addition, Godfrey Kimutai and Eric Lagat finished second and third, respectively, in the men’s 3,000 meters. Kimutai clocked 8:35.64, and Lagat finished in 8:45.52, both personal bests for the athletes.
Multiple Tigers recorded personal and season bests during the meet, including Gabrielle Langford in the women’s 60-meter and 200-meter sprints, Callie Calicut in the women’s 60-meter hurdles and 200 meters, and Kayla Williams in the 60-meter hurdles. Other notable performances included Ronald Huddleston in the men’s 200 meters, Sabatiney Onyepunuka in the women’s 200 meters, Dominic Turner in the men’s 800 meters, and Amara Hawkins-Quinones, Kaylin Jackson, and Karina Griffin in the women’s 800 meters.
